Read Aloud 

Milli's Marvellous Hat is a cute book by award winning author Satoshi Kitamura. The storyline goes: Millie can’t afford to buy the lovely new hats she sees on display in the hat store but the man who works there offers her a solution. Millie would need to use her imagination and she could have any hat she likes. In addition, she could also change her hat many times a day to suit any occasion.

To increase reader interaction and enjoyment of the story, after reading aloud the learners were given hands on tasks which showed them how to make paper hats with newspapers. The learners of grade 1 enjoyed this origami activity .

 

Citation and referencing session

A citation and referencing session was conducted for grade 7 learners. Academic integrity is often only communicated as a policy or set of rules. Therefore to make it simpler for learners to grasp its importance, at the beginning a warm up activity was conducted. Next they were briefed about   basic rules of citation, what are the different types of citation styles and when and how to cite the sources was explained to the leaners. The learners were also given a demo on how to use easybib for generating online citations. This workshop was conducted in two batches.

 

'Twist a Tale’

A competition called ‘Twist a Tale’ was organised for the primary and middle school learners. In this contest the students had to give their own ending to any of the famous fairytales they have read or been read to in the past. The key to the contest was for learners to learn to creatively relook at the conventional ending, and in doing so it provided impetus to generate a creative and personal manner of ending their favourite fairytale. We received an overwhelming response from our learners across grades.

 Poem to Share

“Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.” – Robert Frost. With that  in mind, we invited budding poets to put their thoughts, emotions, sounds, feelings and senses to write poems of everyday interest.

Some brave students came forward and submitted their writings. We even had the middle school second language learners write poems in hindi.

Finally the poems were displayed on the library bulletin board.
